Dave Bennett has announced he is stepping down from his role at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Late Monday evening, National League team Dagenham & Redbridge released a club statement from their Chairman Dave Bennett. Following on from a board meeting held earlier in the day, Bennett has announced that he is stepping down from his role at the club with immediate effect.

Since taking over from Dave Andrews in December 2013, Bennett oversaw the a three year spell in League Two. The club’s Football League experience came to an end last season, when they finished 23rd and were relegated back into the Non League pyramid.

Originally, Bennett had stated he was going to stand down in the summer due to personal reasons, however decided to stay on due to impending investment. He had hoped to help create a smooth transition for the potential new owners, but has felt the time is now right to step aside. The now former Chairman will remain on the board, so that in his words he can “help the club move forward”.

The Daggers currently sit in fourth position as they look to bounce straight back up into League Two.
