It’s not every day that a player gets the chance to play in one of Europe’s best leagues. It would be even more rare for that player to turn down that chance in order to play in the Vanarama Conference.

Barrow AFC, who currently sit 4th in the top tier of Non-League football, have acquired former Leicester City forward Harry Panayiotou. Barrow manager Paul Cox had initially tried to sign Panayiotou whilst at Mansfield and has been interested in the player ever since.

It has been reported that the striker had turned down offers at a German club, as well as several English clubs in higher divisions.

Panayiotou has a certain amount of pedigree – he is a full international playing for Caribbean side St Kitts and Nevis and has had trials at Port Vale and Scottish side Raith Rovers.
