A Non-League player has been sacked by his parent and loan club after sending abusive tweets to a Premier League player.

Alfie Barker, who was a Hitchin Town player but had spent this season on loan at Codicote FC, is accused of sending the appalling tweets to Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.

Arter, who tragically lost his stillborn daughter, was targeted by Barker, sending him two tweets. NLO has not seen these tweets, but they have been reported by other media outlets as saying “At least you didn’t lose your kid,” and “Big hype just for a disappointment like the nine months leading up to your child’s birth”. Utterly disgusting, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Barker at first stated that his account had been hacked, before apologising about the tweets. Both Hitchin Town and Codicote FC have terminated Barker’s contract.

Arter reported the tweets to Twitter and its remains to be seen what retrospective action the FA will take.
